Maciej Urbaniec was born on 1st of September 1925 in Zwierzyniec, near Zamosc. He studied at the State College of Fine Arts in Wroclaw and received his diploma in 1954. He then joined Prof Henryk Tomaszewski’s studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw where he graduated with honours in 1958.

This film poster for the Hollywood caper 'How to Steal a Million' was designed by Polish artist Maciej Hubner (Hibner) in 1968. The film, starring Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, is a delightful Parisian caper which follows the daughter of a master art forger as she teams up with a dashing thief to steal one of her father's forgeries and protect his secret.
This is a modern limited edition, reprinted in Poland with kind permission from Maciej Hubner (Hibner).

This is an original 1969 vintage movie poster by the wonderful artist Maciej Hubner (Hibner). He designed Doktor Glas (Doctor Glas) for the Polish cinema release of the Danish psychological thriller with the same name.

This very special original vintage Polish film poster comes from the personal archives of the artist himself - the utter joy, and legendary talent, Maciej Hubner (Maciej Hibner). We are selling this poster on his behalf which makes it incredibly special to us. He designed this charming gem back in 1960 for the Soviet film ‘Lekkoduchy i Dziewczyna’ or ‘Cheeky Boys and a Girl’. It is just the absolute cutest isn’t it.

We can’t stress enough what an absolute joy the artist Maciej Hubner (Hibner) is. He’s also a prolific artist, still working in his nineties, and an absolute genius. This beautiful poster (Co Za Radosc Zyc) was designed by Maciej Hubner back in 1963 for the wonderfully titled French film ‘Quelle joie de vivre’ (The Joy of Living) directed by Rene Clement and starring Alain Delon.

We adore this original 1964 photo collage Polish poster design by Maciej Hibner. He designed this vintage film poster for the Polish cinema release of British film ‘Flame in the Streets’ (Ognie na Ulicach) directed by Roy Baker and starring John Mills, Sylvia Syms, Brenda De Banzie, Earl Cameron and Johnny Sekka.
The film is set in the burgeoning West Indian community of post-war Britain and racial tensions rise at home, work and on the streets during bonfire night. We only wish more had changed since its release.
In his autobiography, The Director's Cut (2000), Roy Baker said the film had recently been shown at a Brixton cinema "to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival in Britain of the steamer Windrush, bringing Caribbeans to work here. ... Some of the older ones [in the audience] testified that it was a true picture of the conditions the incomers faced and in some areas still do face."

This original 1969 Polish film poster by Maciej Hubner (Hibner) is insanely beautiful. We adore his minimalist use of photo collage combined with bold graphic shapes and colour. He designed it for a Polish film ‘Ruchome Piaski’ which translates in English as ‘Shifting Sands’.

Maciej Hibner is a classic artist from the Polish School of Posters and always such a joy. This original Polish film poster ‘Sprawcy Nieznani’ was designed by him in 1961 for Italian farce ‘Soliti Ignoti' or ‘Big Deal on Madonna Street’. It was a really popular crime/comedy about a motley group of inept small-time thieves who attempt to rob a local pawnshop.

About Maciej Hibner
Maciej Hibner was born in 1930 in Warsaw. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the guidance of prof. Józef Mroszczak. He graduated in 1955 and is one of Poland’s best known and well respected graphic designers and posters creators. He is credited with being one of the key figures of the Polish School of Posters. He’s an internationally acclaimed graphic artist whose work has been shown around the world at exhibitions in London, Paris, Vienna, Rome and Delhi (1954) and won numerous awards.
This is such a strikingly beautiful and powerful design by the legendary Maciej Hubner (Hibner). He designed this original vintage film poster ‘Kochanka Buntownika’ in 1971 for the Italian film ‘L'Amante di Gramigna’ (The Bandit). We are selling this copy on behalf of Maciej Hubner (Hibner) so it is extra special.

It’s our huge privilege and pleasure to sell this original 1968 Polish film poster on behalf of Maciej Hibner. He designed it for a Hungarian musical film which was being played in Polish cinemas ‘Ezek a fiatalok’.

We adore the colours of this 1960s film poster by our one and only Maciej Hubner (Hibner). He designed this Polish poster in 1968 for the Italian film ‘El Greco’ directed by Luciano Salce.
This is a particularly special copy as it comes from Maciej Hubner’s own personal archives and we are selling it on his behalf. Maciej wasn’t given any copies of his own posters by the State so he had to persuade one of the poster pasters on the street to give this to him.

We adore this 1959 Polish film poster for ‘Teresa Raquin’ by Maciej Hibner. He always applies such tender emotion to his designs. Thérèse Raquin (also known as The Adultress) is a 1953 French-Italian drama film directed by Marcel Carné and starring Simone Signoret and Raf Vallone. The story is loosely based on the 1867 novel of the same title by Émile Zola.

This is just the most beautiful Polish film poster by the legendary Maciej Hubner (Hibner). He designed it in 1957 for a Japanese film ‘A Tale From Chikamatsu’ (Ukrzyzowani Kochankowie). We simply adore the combination of the bold graphics and colour with the tenderness of the illustration.

We are selling this copy on behalf of the artist Maciej Hubner (Maciej Hibner) - he has entrusted us with it after having had it in his private archives since the poster’s release in 1967. Artists were given a maximum of 5 copies to keep. Other than that they were paid a standard flat fee by the Ministry of Arts and Culture for their design.
Hubner (Hibner) designed this vintage Polish poster for the Polish cinema release of the 1961 French new-wave romantic drama ‘Lola’ directed by Jacques Demy and starring Anouk Aimee. She’d look super cool hanging out anywhere. She does have a few flaws (don’t we all!) but we think the fact she’s been travelling through life with such a dream of a man and a huge talent as an artist is priceless.
